Another piece by in memory of the Orca, Sharkey.
Here's her description:
This is Orca A25, also known as Sharky, named for her unusually sharklike dorsal fin. A Real Life WILD female Orca that lived in the A5 pod at Johnstone Strait. She died after 26 years of life from unknown causes.
I had first seen Sharky on TV on some wild life program when I was just a kid, and I fell in love with her Sharky was also apart of the WDCS Orca Adoption program, and I got her right away
I followed her through life, getting updated on her and her pod, even the news when she had her first calf. But after some years, I had lost track of her. How I'm not sure.. I had tried to find her with no luck. You can imagine the heart ache I felt when I frond out last year that she had died in 1997 at the young age of 26 [orca's in the wild can live up to 80+ years]
In her time that she was alive, Sharky had two calf's, a female who's ID: A51, that was 11 when Sharky died, and ID: A61, a male that was 2 years old when Sharky died.
Now I follow them as I had followed Sharky.
An intrusting note is that Sharky's own daughter, Spike (A51), has been seen, or even [for a time] 'adopted' the young orphan Orca Springer (A73).
Another Note, ya all know of Corky? Corky is Sea world's 'Shamu' in CA. Well Sharky's mother, was related to Corky's mother ID: A23. Yes, they were all part of the same pod.
So this is my little tribute to an Orca that made me love the species, and respect all life under the waves. Using a photo I had of her fin and marking's, I worked hard to make them the same on here.
Even Orca's can go to heaven.
If you'd like to see Sharky's pod and see the A-Clan orca's and even the A5 pod, you can go to Orca Live [link] watch them live, and in the wild. Where orca's are meant to be!
If you view the 2000 video highlights, pick July 17-28 and you can see a video of Sharky's kid's and hear the sounds of the A5 pod!
Aww, how touching. Poor Sharkey. Yes I've heard of her. She was on a wildlife program, I forget which. :S
